1548.0. "Icon Box position" by KETJE::GEORGES (With Digital, NO problems ONLY Solutions.) Wed Oct 11 1989 05:58

	Hi every DecWindows specialists,

I'm new in the DecWindows world.

I've discovered CHILD, and a part of is power, ...

My question is :

How can I tell my system to place the Icon Box on the left of my screen,
	vertically??

I saw someone who did that in a demo !!!

Regards, Dominique.

Wait until VMS V5.3 (nee DECwindows V2) and then customize the icon
box. Voila, it's current geometry is saved, just where you like it.

If you can't wait until then, try:

wm*.geometry:	w*h+x+y

to give size (w*h) and placement (+x+y)

1548.2VMS or DECwinodws version is the culprit?ROLL::ORTHThe Great Oak was a nut who stood it's ground!Fri Oct 13 1989 15:2215
We're running VMS 5.2 with DECwindows FT2.0.

Is the Icon box geometry saved automatically? Is there a customize window?
Or do I have to install unit VMS5.3 with FT2.0? Do I need SDC 2.0 (is there
such an animal?) for this neat feature? I just want to make sure I'm not
missing the obvious.

DECwindows 1.0 and VMS 5.1 uses "wm*.geometry" very nicely, however we lost this
(yup, I know it was unsupported) with our current setup and I don't see where
I can save the geometry.

Thanks

Pop up MB2 on the Icon Box.. It saves the settings into DECW$WINMGR.DAT
	I think..

But Back in VMS 5.1 ...

New to this whole game, I tried putting

	wm*.geometry: 120*120+10+10

In DECW$XDEFAULTS.DAT, and then in DECW$SM_GENERAL.DAT.

As you can see, I was purely guessing on which .dat file, as well
    as the w, h, x, and y values. (I wanted a 3x3 inch box, upper left.)

    Help ...! ?

    Kevin

1548.6you've got an extra "." in there.....DSTEG2::LUNDThu Oct 19 1989 16:487
Here's that line from my DECW$XDEFAULTS.DAT file:
(Note that there isn't a "." before the "geometry" part of it)

wm*geometry: =800x150+0+0

	wm*.geometry: w*h+x+y

Not only is there a dot, but a star, and there's no ex or equals, either.

    I'll try it again.
