1489.1 | Character encoding mismatch? | HANNAH::MESSENGER | Bob Messenger | Wed Sep 27 1989 17:54 | 16 |
| Re: .0
Check your system resource files to make sure you aren't redefining
bigFontSetName and littleFontSetName.
There is a known problem in directing output from a V1 client to a V2
server: the character encodings changed in the font files, so the VT100
line drawing characters aren't where the V1 DECterm expects them to be.
This shouldn't be happening in your case because all your systems are
running DECwindows V1. Just to make sure, you might try displaying some
characters from the technical character set; if they're displayed as VT100
line drawing characters then you've hit the bug (for whatever reason).

1489.2 | No joy yet... | MORIN::EXTON | Glass: for raising the spirits | Thu Sep 28 1989 07:20 | 17 |
| Hmmm...
I checked decw$system_defaults:*.dat for bigfontset... the only matches
were in vue$defaults.dat. These definitions were however the same as
another machine's upon which there is no problem.
I'm not sure how to get the tech char set, so haven't tried that.
Further probing shows that the line drawing set is OK when a term emu
is customised for both big and condensed fonts but not for the normal
set.
Where else can I look?
Cheers,
Malcolm

1489.3 | Bad font file? | HANNAH::MESSENGER | Bob Messenger | Thu Sep 28 1989 16:01 | 16 |
| Re: .2
If the big and condensed fonts are OK but the normal font is not, then it
sounds like you've got a problem with that particular font. Look in
decw$syscommon:[sysfont.decw.user_75dpi] and
decw$syscommon:[sysfont.decw.user_100dpi] to make sure you don't have a
private copy of a font, and check the creation dates of the terminal*.decw$font
fonts in decw$syscommon:[sysfont.decw.75dpi] and
decw$syscommon:[sysfont.decw.100dpi]. It would also be interesting to know
whether the bold and double high normal fonts have this problem.
Here are some Greek characters from the technical character set (extract tt:
to see them): )>abcpqr.
