I looked for a keyword but didn't seem to find an appropriate one. Has anyone suggested or are any projects underway to create an ELN version of DECwindows for VAXstations? There are lots of VAXstation 2000's that will NOT be upgraded in memory above the standard original 6MB. The cost is much too high. However, a great deal of them are ONLY running DISPLAY SERVER mode. Is an ELN version of DECwindows possible? Planned? Mark

I had spoken to the ELN folks a while back about doing just what you're interested. This was of course before the windowing terminal came to life. It is possible, I even had it working once on a 2000, and it had relatively decent performance. There are other tricks also for those 2000s that are now almost useless. Try running it as only a DECwindows display server, with almost nothing else in a cluster. It works relatively well. (you hve to define the client nodes in some file that looks like decw$server_trusted_nodes.com or something like that) -bill |
