1477.0. "Bookreader over the net" by SEEYOU::HUTTON (Jim) Fri Sep 22 1989 06:41

Hi,

1	I'm trying to point the bookreader to a disk on another node,
not part of the decw cluster...simply pointing the decw$book
	logical.

This almost works, i get the shelf, even manage to read a few
	books.

Some books however give errors such as

		Error opening aa-la66a-te as input
Attempted usage exceeds active license limits.

What licence am i exceeding ?. If i run on the node concerned poining
to the wrokstation everytrhing is ok. Is it my own nodes licence ?, the
	node with disk ?

2	Whats the best way to manage a bunch of users running bookreader
on 1 clsuter pointing to the disk on another node ? I'd prefer
to let them point to the remote disk, if not should i give
accounts to all users on that node ?, 1 account shared between all ?
(either of these mean dedicating a window to just running bookreader ?)
Is there some way to run remote jobs without logging in ?

	thanks again...
	jim

This is a bug in the version 1 Bookreader which is fixed in the
version 2 DECwindows Bookreader which is bundled with 5.3.

Redefining DECW$BOOK to point to the remote node is fine.

1477.3Use DFSGOBBLR::MULHERENKelly Mulheren, GObE & NetEdFri Sep 22 1989 13:008
We (CLT) use DFS. We have a single library, currently around 175 books,
that we serve to the entire cost center. Works very well.

There are more detailed discussions on this in the bulova::bookreader
notesfile. There are also some tricks there for using distributed libraries.

Nope sorry, DECwindows V2 needs some new functionality that was
added to VMS V5.2. The latest 5.3 kit (T5.3) was just announced
a couple of days ago.
