1418.0. "Any other source for X11 than DECWRL?" by MARX::ADAMS () Mon Sep 11 1989 16:07

    I am trying to get X11 release 3 off the Ultrix system decwrl
    to load onto a SUN 4/110. I always seem to have problems doing
    an FTSV spool copy over the netet. Does anyone have a copy of these
    tar files that I could copy over to the SUN?

    Failing this, I'm afraid I will have to pay MIT $400 to get
    their X11 tapes.

    You could look in flume::/usr/decwin3/mit for files. It
    looks like it is world readable.

    Please keep business hours traffic (Eastern Time) to a
    minimum.

If you try getting it from flume, you will have to use rcp, not dcp. The decnet
guest account on our production machines is chrooted to ~uucp.

there's also a copy on WJG::X11R3:

fixcore.tar has the 10 MIT patches applied.

WJG is a VMS node, FTSV should work fine.

1418.4Appreciate the helpMARX::ADAMSThu Sep 14 1989 10:398
    Thanks for all the help! I was able to get a good copy networked
    over from WJG. I notice it has both the core.tar, core.tar.Z
    and constituent directories for core.tar.

    Thanks, you just saved our cc and DEC $400.

how much it cost to transport the approx 15 megabytes through the network...

    Considering that the network is build using leased lines which are paid

1418.7How to copy compressed-tar files to VMS..UFP::MURPHYA bug? Use the source, Luke!Sun Sep 24 1989 20:225
    FWIW (give you've fixed you're problem..) you can't COPY the kit off
    DECWRL to a VMS system. Use EXCHANGE/NETWORK/TRANSFER=BLOCK. Which, of
    course, means FTSV is right out. Sorry....

1418.8FTSV works just fine!!!!VINO::WITHROWMass. recall petitions available here!Tue Sep 26 1989 11:2612
> Which, of course, means FTSV is right out. Sorry...

I routinely use FTSV to copy compressed tar files from DECWRL and other
*nix nodes. It works just fine!

To repetitively repeat this again one more time:

  1) Use FTSV
  2) Use a *current* version of LZDCMP with the -b -x2 switches
  3) Use TARREAD (the source of which is available in the GNU notes file,
     or from VINO::[withrow.public]tarread.c
