I'm a relatively new DECwindows user so excuse this question if it is naive. If from the session manager window I create a DECterm DECwindows plasters a DECterm all over my screen occluding any other windows. All well and good, but then I have to move the mouse pointer to the newly created window and hit MB1 to get input focus before I can start typing to my new DECterm. Why do I have to go through this unneccessary step. It seems obvious to me that I created a DECterm because I wanted to use it! Hence why leave input focus on the Session Manager Window (which has probably been more or less totally occluded by the new DECterm anyway)? Dave

You need to run either AUTOFOCUS or the HP Motif Window Manager. The automatic assignment of input to a new windows was dropped from DW early on becase of the long time that it takes some applications to get going even tho' they have a window up. Both are mentioned plentifully herein. - | |||||

RE: .0 Suppose you assigned focus to some other window and started doing things while waiting for the DECterm to come up. It would be pretty bad if the DECterm then grabbed focus while you're in the middle of typing. VWS used to do this and it drove me batty. --PSW |
