1386.0. "What causes %XLIB-E-INSFMEM. PSVIEWER error" by SMAUG::GARROD (An Englishman's mind works best when it is almost too late) Wed Sep 06 1989 12:21

I can't seem to get PSVIEWER to run properly. It keeps bombing out
    with the error:

    %XLIB-E-INSFMEM, insufficient dynamic memory
X Toolkit error: Cannot perform realloc
    %DWT-F-DWTABORT, xtoolkit fatal error

What exactly does this error mean. It sounds like it is talking
about virtual memory ie a LIB$GET_VM failed. But that returns the
error INSVIRMEM not INSFMEM. Also my process has only got a total
virtual sizeof 8000 odd pages. My PGFLQUOTA is 20000 and
    VIRTUALPAGECNT is 20000 as well.

In VMS terms INSFMEM tends to refer to things like QIOs failing
due to insufficient pool etc. But an ANAL/SYS shows that I am nowhere
near hitting these sort of quotas. So what is causing this error?

    Thanks,

    Dave

    I am running VMS V5.1

An ANAL/IMAGE of various DECW$xxx imagees in SYS$SYSTEM gives an
    image ident of:

    DECWINDOWS V5.1

The images were linked around 15-DEC-1988

Can you do a Sho Mem/pool/full/all and post the result here?

Insufficient *dynamic* memory errors are very often caused by CTLPAGES being
too small. This sizes the process allocation region in P1 space from which
(among other things) process-local logical names are carved. Lots of logicals
can cause this error. Default is 50... try 100; it's just virtual space.

How can I use SDA to find out how much CTLPAGES I am using.

    Thanks,
