I'm looking for some help concerning Decwindows crashing. Here are the conditions. Configuring a new system - VS3500 workstation 24mb memory. Version 5.2 VMS - loaded by factory installed software program in Ayr. System up an running OK with DECNET/security etc OK. However when modifying a UAF , eg modifying a password, the Decwindows software appears to crash , ie VR290 display no longer responds to commands and turns off all colour and appears to stop all sessions. If a console is attached to the system port the operating system seems OK. Can anyone help , the system itself works fine unless we do the above. Thanks Dave Murray

Dave, I think this is normal: a VMS V5.2 security enhancement. Try entering CTRL-F2 at the workstation when this happens. I am not 100% sure though... Hope this helps, Marat

RE: .0 Broadcast messages directed to the operator's console will appear at the top of the screen. CTRL/F2 removes the console display and returns you to normal mode. --PSW

...and V5.2 does enable AUTHORIZATION and BREAKIN alarms, by default. |
