| | Is there a new kit? I tried copying the .0 one and get "Invalid login at..."
Same when I try to mail to Mr. Saunders. What about .1's issue?
Thanks

| 1339.3 | It'll be fixed soon | FIZBUZ::SAUNDERS | A WINDOW in any Language | Mon Sep 25 1989 04:49 | 16 |
| | I've just got back in to the office, and all our machines have been upgraded to
X5.3, I suspect that has something to do with why we are no longer accessable on
the net, I'll get that fixed ASAP.
On .1, thats a new one on me, I have just unpacked the kit in .0, and
the kitinstal in it at my node is **definatly** the Banner kit install,
and I have just installed the kit, and all went perfectly. I'm affraid I
am completely at a loss as to how you managed to find an SVN kitinstal.com.
Anybody else who managed to get at the kit seen this problem?
One peice of bad news, the NI monitor seems to be out again on X5.3, so it
looks like the kit in .0 is only any good for V5.2 systems, if you are
interested in watching you NI.

| | Yeah, I noticed the NI stuff.

    BTW it may be the CAPTIVE versus RESTRICTED flag problem thats causing
    the lack of access.

| 1339.5 | PE window problem | REVEAL::LEE | Wook... Like 'Book' with a 'W' | Mon Sep 25 1989 12:01 | 6 |
| | I've noticed that the PE window never comes up on startup. I always have to
enable it explicitly. This is when the kit is installed on X5.3, but not in
V5.2 or the V5.2-1 update.

|  |     re: .1
    Looks like cockpit error on my part. I extracted the installation
    procedure out (as I often do) to see what it would do before using
    it. But it got tucked under another KITINSTAL (SVN) I had left from
    before and confused me. Sorry for the false alram...

| 1339.7 |  | FIZBUZ::SAUNDERS | A WINDOW in any Language | Thu Sep 28 1989 06:37 | 13 |
| | Re .5, The PE display knows that its not getting good stats, so it switches
itself off, hence why its never comming up on startup. Smart isnt it! This is
just 5.3 systems, where all the address offsets for the NI stats has changed,
I will have a new kit for 5.3 systems, when I get the new addresses, and when I
have the prototype for the system monitor running correctly (Just have to find
how to get stats on Page file, and Swap files and its done).
Fizbuz is now back open to the network, and the address in .0, will get you a
kit for v5.2 systems. I'll post a not here when the V5.3 kit is ready.

| 1339.8 | Overlaying BANNER windows? | MARVIN::COBB | Graham R. Cobb (Wide Area Comms.), REO2-G/K3, 830-3917 | Mon Oct 02 1989 06:32 | 12 |
| | BANNER seems to insist that its windows always be at the top of the stack.
While I am sure that the feature is very useful, is there some way I can
turn it off?
I frequently find that application startup windows come up underneath my
banner (I use windows without borders and have them carefully aligned to
form a fairly large block in the corner of my screen). I then have to move
part of the banner block in order to pick up the application window to move
it somewhere visible.

| 1339.9 | A restriction of the DEC window manager | FIZBUZ::SAUNDERS | A WINDOW in any Language | Mon Oct 02 1989 13:34 | 19 |
| | Banner, and all other applications, can only have boarderless windows
    if it tells the window manager to leave its windows alone. This is
    because it is the window manager who puts all the boarders on the
    windows. What you are experiencing is an unfortunate side affect of
    this action, since the window manager has no longer any knowledge
    of Banner windows, all other windows which ARE handled by the window
    manager are placed below these windows. (In fact with the HP window
    manager this isnt true, and new windows can still be on top of the
    banner windows, but our window manager seems to be different).

    To help reduce the inconvience inside of banner you have the capability
    of pulling windows with the MBI while in boarderless mode, and on the
    popup menu you have a restore settings options, which will also restore
    your original window possitions. However this is the best I can do I
    have no means as far as I know off, to control this behavour in the
    window manager.

| 1339.10 | help! | BXB005::BERNSTEIN | B4IP is a part name??? | Wed Nov 08 1989 16:30 | 18 |
|  | Having read throught notes 80, 1339, and 1609, I'm afraid I still have a
question...
I run banner on my workstation, soon to be upgraded to VMS5.3 et. al.(from
VMS5.2 and FT DECW 2.0). I am very pleased with it. But that is not where
the problem is.
I'd like to monitor the free space on three disks of another machine and display
it on my workstation. In principal, no problem. However, that other machine
is running VMS5.1 and V1 DECwindows. I'd like to run Mr. Saunder's Banner for
VMS5.2, as mentioned in .0 of this note, because it has the option to monitor
free space (vs. i/o).
Before I ask them to install banner001 on that machine (which I don't have
system privs on), can anyone tell me if they ever tried to install/run the
banner mentioned in this note? Thank you.
                                          .steve.

| 1339.12 | I dont think it will work | FIZBUZ::SAUNDERS | A WINDOW in any Language | Tue Dec 05 1989 07:59 | 7 |
| | I'm afraid I dont think it will work, there were eneugh changes between V1.0,
and V2.0, that you will probably get toolkit error, and possibly even protocol
error's. However I cant be sure, because I dont know anybody who has done this.
Sorry

I'll have to wait a small lifetime for our cluster to be upgraded... 8^(
At least my box is up-to-speed. 8^)
