I'm having problems setting my pointer colours under Ultrix V3.1, UWS V2.1. I can change the colours to anything I like, but I cannot control which colour is applied to the middle of the arrow and which colour is applied to the border. The software seems to randomly decide (based on the chosen colours) that border=foreground and centre=background, or vice-versa. For example, if I want a black-and-green cursor, the only way that the software will let me have it is green border, black centre (which is, of course, the opposite to what I want, otherwise I wouldn't be complaining). It's not just that it's getting foreground and background confused; if I switch the colour definitions then the cursor doesn't change. Some colour combinations come out right, others don't. Truly weird!

I've seen the same thing, UWS 2.1, RISC. I've also found that if I save the session manager colors and restore them, some of them come back looking NOTHING like I set up. I finally set up the colors I wanted on a VMS station and copied the numeric values from DECW$SM_COLOR.DAT to .Xdefaults, but this still didn't solve the cursor problem. I finally discovered that if I diddled the cursor colors a little bit (1% at a time) I could eventually get it to come out right, and the colors were only slightly off from what I wanted. You're right, it's weird! Steve |
