| APEX (APE X) is a Digital-internal-use-only tool that permits an
experimentor to write a script which emulates a user using VMS
DECwindows for the purpose of measuring user perceived response times.
For example, I've written a script which logs in, waits for the
FileView window to appear, then edits a file using EVE's DECwindow user
interface. When this script runs, the pointer moves across the screen
as if a user was moving the mouse, menus pulldown as if the user
clicked a button, and characters appear on the screen as if the user
typed on the keyboard. At appropriate points in the script, the
emulated user waits for the system to respond and logs the time that it
was doing so.
