1294.0. "DECW vs DECterm/SMG - CPU resource utilization..?" by ASPEN2::BOIKO (Is this Heaven..No, it's Iowa..) Thu Aug 17 1989 04:07
I would like to update the UI of an internal tool, which my group has
developed over the last 2 years, from it's current DECterm/SMG/programmable
function keys UI to a more contemporary DECwindows UI.
However some concern has been raised regarding CPU resource utilization,
(specifically the DECW$SERVER process) comparing our current implementation
of 3-4 DECterm/SMG windows updating various data fields at an update interval
of 3 seconds vs similar functionality written as a DECwindows application(s).
This would all be running on the local node - no remote client/server.
Can someone make a statement about resource utilization and general
performance differences when comparing a UI written for - DECterm/SMG vs
updating to native DECwindows/xlib/toolkit...
Thanks
