1283.0. "DECwindows 2.* and color output" by STKHLM::GOLSSON (Gert Olsson, Malmoe (UGO)) Wed Aug 16 1989 05:01

I have a couple of questions regarding color support in
    DECwindows 2.*.

Will the "Print Screen" facility allow both color sixel and
    color PostScript output?

Will the built in CDA converter support color PostScript?

Will there be a built in CDA converter for color sixel?
Or will the optional converter library support color sixel.

If color sixel output is supported, how many colors does
    the LJ250 support? The LCG01?

A late reply, but I can't keep up with this file, and still implement all these
things.

For the next release printscreen will do color sixel, and color DDIF. NOT
color PostScript. The CDA converter will not do color postscript.

Color postscript for Printscreen and the DDIF->PostScript converter are very,
very high on the wish list.

Sixels and DDIF is an issue I'll leave for someone else.

The LJ250 uses 4 colors of ink (CYMK) and has a built in hardware map that holds
256 colors. DECimage is used to do the actual conversions, and I'm not sure if
they use the map, or do their own dithering. You could ask in
EDWIN::IMAGE_SERVICES.

    Thanks,

Even if I thought DECwindows V2 and printscreen would be able to
produce color PostScript (It looks like it on the DECWFT1020 kit I tried).
