Hi, I have a customer who is using MACCS/REACCS in a DECterm emulation window. As I could convince myself, the performance is rather low. Also he has sometimes to make additional carriage returns which he has not to do when working on a VT340-terminal.The performance is much higher, if he uses VWS with the Regis Terminal. Could somebody tell me whether there are known problems with the performance of DECterm? Thanks for help! Regards! Evi

Re: .0 Yes, there are known problems with ReGIS performance. For one thing, the X protocol doesn't allow for scaled and rotated text, so all of that has to be done on the client side in DECterm (which is clumsy and slow). Another problem is that the server doesn't support a backing store, so DECterm has to draw everything twice: once to the window and once to an off-screen window. You can disable the ReGIS backing store in DECwindows V2. There are also problems with the ReGIS emulation, as you've noted. Please QAR any problems that you find (or have your customers submit SPRs) in case the problems aren't already known. A lot of bugs have been fixed in DECwindows V2, e.g. with character sizes and locator input. -- Bob |
