1217.0. "Printing DEC Scan Image from DECwindows PAINT" by PHLACT::RUPARELIA (Out of Africa . . .) Wed Aug 02 1989 11:26

I have done a directory of this notes file and have yet to find
anywhere the following problem described (I read most of the PAINT
    concerns):

o I invoke DECwindows Paint, create a drawing, submit it for
print to an LPS40, it works great!

o Using DEC Image Scan Product, I scan a picture, save it and then
import it into paint, submit it for print to LPS40 and I get the
    following message:

    	Bad Status 100052 from symbiont

    Two things,

o Can anyone tell me what this means or where I can find the message
    documented or

o Is there a DECwindows Paint Notes file? If there is where and
    what is it called.

    Regards,

This translates to "E-CTRLERR, fatal controller error". Could you supply
more information (such as):
	1. What version of VMS & Decwindows are you using?
	2. What are the attributes of the queue to which you submitted the
		print request?
	3. Which print format did you choose? (Does the Printer queue you
chose handle the chosen print format?)
	4. Are you setting any particular fields in the print widget (e.g.
Printer Form, Setup or Layup definition)?

Try DCL lexical f$message, then check the General User manual listing
system messages.

> more information (such as):
> 1. What version of VMS & Decwindows are you using?

    VMS v5.1-1, DECwindows 5.1

> 2. What are the attributes of the queue to which you submitted
> the print request?

Printer queue LPS40$LPS400, on PIYUSH::LPS400, mounted form LPS$$FORM
    (stock=DEFAULT)
    /BASE_PRIORITY=4 /DEFAULT=(FORM=LPS$$FORM (stock=DEFAULT))
    /NOENABLE_GENERIC /LIBRARY=LPS$DEVCTL /OWNER=[SYSTEM]
    /PROCESSOR=LPS$SMB /PROTECTION=(S:E,O:D,G:R,W:W) /SCHEDULE=(NOSIZE)
    /SEPARATE=(FLAG,RESET=(LPS$$EOJ),TRAILER)

    Generic printer queue PS_LPS400
    /GENERIC=(LPS40$LPS400) /OWNER=[SYSTEM] /PROTECTION=(S:E,O:D,G:R,W:W)
    /SCHEDULE=(NOSIZE)

> 3. Which print format did you choose? (Does the Printer
> queue you chose handle the chosen print format?)

    I chose the Postscript option

> 4. Are you setting any particular fields in the print widget
> (e.g. Printer Form, Setup or Layup definition)?

I take whatever the defaults are! When I am in the Print Dialog
box, I select the POSTSCRIPT from the Print Format option box and
PS_LPS400 from the Printer option box. That's it, nothing more,
    the rest are defaults...

Anything else you need to know?

1217.3problem fixed in V2EPIK::J_JOSEPHCats are on the upgrade.Wed Aug 30 1989 16:486
There were definitely some problems in V1 paint involving printing. Especially
printing of pictures with a good deal of dithering in them (such as often come
from scanner output) These problems have been fixed in version 2 paint.
