Is it possible for the terminal emulator to use other fonts than the two customisable ones on a decwindows/vms system ? I can imagine that some parameters exist that can be placed in the decw$xdefaults file, like under ultrix where the dxterm can be started with parameters for the default small and big font. I tried it under ultrix, but it did not work. May be i specified the fonts in the wrong way. What parameters should i specify on vms and which string should i specify to get this working ? Any help is appreciated very much. gerard brouwers SWAS Utrecht.

On both Ultrix and VMS you can change the fonts used for the Big and Little fonts with: *DECterm.bigFontSetName: xxxxxx *DECterm.littleFontSetName: yyyyyy where xxxxxx and yyyyyy are font names, *not* file names. The defaults (in DECterm V1.0) are: *DECterm.bigFontSetName: -*-Terminal-*-*-*--*-180-*-*-*-*-*-* *DECterm.littleFontSetName: -*-Terminal-*-*-*--*-140-*-*-*-*-*-* You'll have to figure out the correct font name patterns for the fonts you want to substitute. -- Bob

How come when I select Bigfont on the DECterm customize window option I get a heavily serif'ed font and not the sans-serif that I get with Little font? What I want is the font that shows in the operators window, which looks like the DVWSVT0 19X10 that I used on UIS, but don't know what it's called. I looked at the ADOBE-* family of fonts and the Helvetica-Mediuim-O-Normal--18 is REAL close to what I want but has horrible spacing because it's a P and not an M. Why ARE the Bigfont and Littlefont defaults so different?

Gee, seems that nobody donated my fonts to Adobe :-) The fonts in DECterm seem to be right out of VWS (though I have heard some debate about the Courier, which looks an awful lot like the 100 dpi Bitstream font that was purchased for VWS). In fact you can tell from the corrupt uppercase "D" characters (I changed my mind later about the look of these) that can be confused with the letter "O". In any case, the DVWSVT fonts that are labeled as 19 point are not available in DECwindows. I've been working on converting the 20x10 pixel and 20x9 pixel fonts but am causing the DECterm controller to ACCVIO every time I try them... In my copious spare time I'll try again. _Fred (not a very good font designer, but cheap) |
