1179.0. "WPS-Plus causing color upheaval!!" by MLCSSE::PICCICUTO (The warmer, the better!) Wed Jul 26 1989 11:34

    I'm running a VAXstation 3100 with a 4 plane color module. VMS version
    5.1-B and DECwindows. When I set host over to my main 11785 and
    run WPS-PLUS my colors go crazy on me. It appears that they go
    reverse video or some such setting as to render them un-readable.
     When I click to another window the colors reset themselves fine.
    Click back to the wps window and colors go nuts???

    What am I missing here? I've check term settings, customize settings,
    etc without success.  Any suggestions?

    Phil  :^(

1179.1Is WPS-PLUS sending ReGIS commands?HANNAH::MESSENGERBob MessengerWed Jul 26 1989 12:0013
Re: .0

Is it just the colors in the DECterm window that change when you run WPS-PLUS,
or is the colors for the entire workstation screen? From your description
I'm guessing the latter.

If WPS-PLUS is using ReGIS commands then what you are describing is expected
(DECterm is allocating a private colormap), but I can't think of why WPS-PLUS
would be using ReGIS. Try doing a SET TERMINAL/NOREGIS before running
WPS-PLUS.

    and second, VS3100's are not supported with the 4 plane option.
    Even though it may work.

    I know Jeff, and that is what I think it MAY be, but I thought I'd
    ask to see if anyone else had the problem.

    Jeff.....got a eight plane hanging around?

1179.4Could you post a log file?HANNAH::MESSENGERBob MessengerWed Jul 26 1989 17:507
Re: .2

Could you do a SET HOST/LOG before running WPS-PLUS, and post the log file
here? I'd like to see what escape sequences etc. are being sent to DECterm.

1179.5ALL-IN-1/WPS-PLUS CLEAR FunctionMSDSWS::MHENSONMark Henson @MMOThu Jul 27 1989 00:2511
I have run into the same problem running ALL-IN-1 (which is really the same
as running WPS-PLUS...) While trying to isolate the problem, I found that
the culpret is the ALL-IN-1/WPS-PLUS CLEAR function that is used to
re-paint/refresh the terminal screen. I have not been able to find out
exactly what escape sequences that they are sending out, but it causes the
previous condition to occur any time the CLEAR function is executed....

If I can find some more information, I will post it here....

> Can someone tell me what escape characters are output when the ALL-IN-1 CLEAR

    There are a number of escape sequences output, the ReGIS sequence is:

	<ESC>PpP[0,0]S[0,0](E)P[0,0]<ESC>\

    This sequence is only output if VMS (and hence ALL-IN-1) believe that the
    terminal has the ReGIS characteristic. The above $SET command will make
    ALL-IN-1 believe that ReGIS is not supported (so no ReGIS sequence is sent.)

> (although why I wouldn't know).

    Why? Well you may have been running an application that did ReGIS output.
    ALL-IN-1 has no way of knowing if you have or haven't, so it assumes that
    you have run such an application.

	HTH,
	  Paul.

    PS I see you've cross-posted this in the DECwindows conference and Bob
    Messenger has explained what DECterm does when it receives a ReGIS command.

1179.7Still a no go!MLCSSE::PICCICUTOThe warmer, the better!Thu Jul 27 1989 09:00176
Here is the SETHOST.LOG file. I tried the set noregis again and still
no luck. A friend of mine has a MV II GPX and works fine, but she has
an eight plane board. I'm beginning to think it is the 4 plane color!

Thanks for all the help people!

    Re: .7

    Your log-file shows that WPS-PLUS/VMS is sending the ReGIS sequence
    regardless of the REGIS setting. As this indicates a WPS-PLUS problem,
    try the WPS-PLUS conferences:

	For WPS-PLUS V3.0	SCRIBE::WPS-PLUS	(KP7 etc. to select)

	For versions before V3.0	VAX4::WPSPLUS

    Paul.

1179.9Here's how to recover from the ReGIS commandsHANNAH::MESSENGERBob MessengerThu Jul 27 1989 11:0413
Re: .7

Yep, it's using ReGIS all right. To restore your workstation's colormap
to the default, first clear your window (Clear Display from DECterm's
Commands menu) and then reset it (Reset Terminal from the Commands menu).

There is some relief for this problem in DECterm V2.0 (currently in field
test): by default it supports 4 color (2 plane) ReGIS instead of 16 color
REGIS on a 4-plane workstation, so it doesn't always have to create a
private colormap.
