Our workstations and CDA has a part missing at the high end color spectrum. The LJ250 does not cut the mustered - not enough colors and too slow for many applications. I am aware we have a product internally, UTOX that can output to TEK 4693d printers via a Q-bus card from CPI. I am also aware that UTOX is not on assets (I've sent a flame-o-gram) so it does my customers nogood. Do we offer any other support for high-end color printers? The 4693RGB can not be used as a queued device, and would be an expensive solution for 30 workstations.... For that matter, how many colors will DECwindows screen capture and/or CDA support? I hope its more than 8 (as UIS.)

Our customer has purchased some TEK toys to do hardcopy output on some of their workstations. Not sure of the model number. It grabs the RGB signal to the monitor. Each TEK toy will handle four workstations. It will only print 256 colors. -=> Jim <=-

Screen capture supports as many planes as there are on the workstation, in DECwindows V2 -- that means 24 on a Firefox. The DDIF to PostScript converter in DECwindows V2, CDA Converter Library V1, DECwrite V1, and DECdecision V1 supports color PostScript -- all you need to add is the printing device. We're a little shy on DEC supplied DDIF color creators at the moment, but you can of course roll your own.

Watch note 159 of CLOSET::UTOX conference for status of UTOX and ASSETS. -Mike |
