1110.0. "Printing from DECwindows dumps window!" by ANARCY::DILIDDO (I'm not indecisive.......Am I?) Fri Jul 14 1989 17:35
I'm having a major problem printing via the DECW print widgets.
When printing fom within FileView (click on file then
use middle button to select Print) I get the watch cursor
for about 10 seconds and then FileView and all applications
created with it dump with a message in the Session Manager
window "FileView Stopped:access violation."
I checked all the LOG files I could find but I couldn't
find any more info than that.
In DECW Mail when I select either Customize Print Options
or Print (from any menu) all the mail windows dump and I
get the following error report:
DECW$MAIL severe error - attempting to complete pending actions
%SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=00, virtual address=
00000065, PC=00037142, PSL=0BC00000
Improperly handled condition, image exit forced.

About my cluster: It's an MIVC with two 8550 boot nodes
two system disks and approximately 41 assorted satellites.
We're running VMS V5.1-1 and SDC DECW V5.1
This problem was first noticed earlier this week on a 3540
Firefox. I realize that Print|Capture Screen is disabled on
the VS3540 - that's understood. I've been in touch with Dave
Bernardo in ZK and he suggested that I try upping the ASTLIM parameter
on the user account. I tried this but to no avail. It was also
suggested that I upgrade to VMS V5.2 which is in the works but if
I can get this fixed before the upgrade I'd be happier. This cluster
has been running DECW since we upgraded to V5.1 a few months ago
so I don't understand why the print capability is suddenly failing.
Should I reinstall DECwindows first or bite the bullet and upgrade
VMS hoping that the problem gets fixed.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Jim Di Liddo

| Does your system have more than a hundred queues? Check
the notes in here about the print widget, I think it
doesn't work with that many queues.

1110.2 | That did it! | ANARCY::DILIDDO | I'm not indecisive.......Am I? | Mon Jul 17 1989 19:11 | 9 |

Thanks Dan - that seems to have done the trick. I deleted all
of the unused queues and used the DECW$PRINT_FORMAT logicals.
The que select window comes up quicker and it actually works!!
Thanks,
-Jim

| FYI: The 100 queue (and form) restriction is fixed for DW V2...
