| Yes, not "integrated" with what?
DECwindows Mail does not have a DCL command. The exact DCL
command you gave as an example, however, will do exactly what
you want, using VMSmail to send the file.

| and before anyone asks... Nmail can cope with DDIF, as long as
you have Nmail V9.1.

| Re: .1,.2
Lori means to say that DECwindows Mail is not integrated with DECdecision
Builder.

| If DECdecision Builder needs any help integrating DECwindows Mail,
let me know. I haven't seen DECdecision, so I don't know what's
necessary (or exactly what "integrated" means)...

| Thanks Tracy, yes I did mean the Builder component of DECdecision.
Builder allows you to record repetitive keystrokes of integrated
(conforming) applications to playback at a later date. Conforming
applications for V1.0 of DECdecision includes each of its' components:
DECdecision Access, DECdecision Calc, DECchart, and embedded Builder
blueprints. A blueprint is a revisable visual diagram of the recorded
steps.
Non-conforming applications can be added to the blueprint, but only
to the extent you must provide a DCL invocation string.
I have found that sending a chart (DDIF) file through VMSmail send only
data contained in the Chart. The text of my mail message would read
"New Hampshire010 040Rhode Island3241". What I would prefer to have
the actually DECchart DDIF file sent. Of course the person would then
need to extract the contents of the mail message into DDIF file in
order to view it through the DDIF viewer or DECchart.
I believe DECwindows mail will be a "conforming" application in a later
release of DECdecision. At that time I will be able to access mail
and it will record mail commands into my blueprint.
So even if I can automate accessing the data, manipulating and charting
in DECchart, sending the DDIF file through mail will require the user
to actually enter DECwindows mail and send it manually. Since if
I send it using VMSmail via a DCL string, it doesn't send the DDIF file?
I guess the question should now be, "Should I be able to mail a DDIF
file using VMSmail?"
Thanks,
Lori

| Sounds like the RMS filter is getting invoked. Would SEND/FOREIGN
help?

| I've been informed that, yes, VMSmail does send the DDIF file
correctly. When you look at the text portion of your mail message,
it appears as though only the text of the file was sent. After you
extract, the file should contain all the control characters. I want
to check this out again. I thought when I had tried to extract and
use the file in DECchart, it didn't work.
See note 188.1 and 188.2 in the DECdecision notes conference for
more information on mailing CDA files.
Thanks for all your input.

| Thanks Marty - I'll check this out when I'm back in the office.
Perhaps that is why I wasn't able to just extract and use the file on
the receiving end.

| I think you have to use EXTRACT/FOREIGN from character cell mail.
DECwindows Mail knows to create a DDIF document. It's on the work list
for character cell mail, but I don't know what release it will be in.
