1084.0. "xui porting issues" by TOWNS::TJANORSKE () Mon Jul 10 1989 18:34

I am currently working with a customer who is currently using multiflow as the
client and a Mac as the server. This customer has purchased several
DECstation 3100s and is awaiting shipment. They need to start
development right away and the only system they have available is the
multiflow. They received the XUI release 1.0 kit and currently is
trying to start with their development effort but they are having
problems using XUI on the multiflow system. Specifically the problems
they are encountering are compilation errors and run-time errors when
trying to bring the window manager up. Errors encountered include

Compilation Errors:
	in the lib/dwt directory
		attacheddb.c line #206, #214 Illegal initialization
	in the client/wm directory
		wmform.c line #109 Illegal initialization

Window Manager:
	calling sequence
			  processnewwindow
			  addgismos (??)
			  createlowerwidget
			  xtcreatewidget
			  xtcreate
			  xtgetresources
			  getresources
			  copyfromarg (aborts here)

They are currently running BSD4.3 and their C compiler is a standard
ANSII compiler The XUI software is release 1.0 and their X11 software
is MIT's release 3.

I read the other notes regarding XUI and in note 508 it mentions porting
the XUI onto a SUN and the inconsistencies between DEC's X11 and MIT's
X11, is this the same type of problem??? Are there problems porting XUI
onto other BSD4.3 os?

Questions:

Does this customer need DIGITAL's X11 or is what they have o.k.

Is there a porting issue regarding XUI? If so, do we
provide support for this or is this the customer's problem?

What does a customer get with an XUI KIT?

If this is a porting issue and we do not provide support, any
guesstimates regarding the porting effort? (2 days, 3 weeks??)
Any advice regarding other platforms (besides digitals) where
	porting is not that difficult??

Thanks in Advance

Tammy
