You could stand to use more bytlm (32768 is what I have), increase
your WSextent to something bigger. (I have 16384), maybe a little
more FILLM (100), and I bumped my ASTLM and ENQLM up to 100 and
650 respectivly but I can't remember what for..

1083.2 | Here's a start | SEWANE::MASSEY | I left my heart in Software Services. | Tue Jul 11 1989 00:58 | 15 |
| While setting up a demo account on a 16 Meg VAXstation 3100, I played
around with the account parameters until I got one of every OOTB
application to come up from VUE, along with a couple of file operations. I
realize these aren't the size of DECwrite, but it should give you a start:
Maxjobs: 0 Fillm: 50 Bytlm: 60000
Maxacctjobs: 0 Shrfillm: 0 Pbytlm: 0
Maxdetach: 0 BIOlm: 48 JTquota: 1024
Prclm: 10 DIOlm: 38 WSdef: 512
Prio: 4 ASTlm: 60 WSquo: 1024
Queprio: 0 TQElm: 10 WSextent: 4096
CPU: (none) Enqlm: 100 Pgflquo: 40960

1083.3 | We don't supply release notes for our health... | STAR::FERGUSON | Jim Ferguson - VMS Development | Tue Jul 11 1989 11:25 | 9 |
| Either the release notes or the user's guide states that you
need 5000 BYTLM per VUE task. I also think it say something
about 32000 is recommended. If you are running applications
remotely you might need to bump your ASTLM up to 100 and bump
your server retry logical name values up too. This is discussed
in a previous note.

You don't need WSEXTENT as obscenely high as 16384. I run 5 DECterms, DECwrite,
DECwindows NOTES, DECwindows MAIL, CardFiler, XPostit, Fish, Calendar,
Bookreader, and Kaleidoscope simultaneously with a WSEXTENT of 6000.

Wow! How did you get an 8800 in your office!

I didn't. This all runs quite well on a 13 meg VAXstation-II/GPX. The
changes to modified page management in VMS V5.2 helped a lot. Before that, I
had to run CW's FREEMEM program every now and then.

1083.7 | minor progress | DELNI::GOLDSTEIN | We await silent Tristero's entry | Fri Jul 14 1989 14:01 | 9 |
| Okay, I appreciate that somebody's GPX is doing wonders, but at this
point I'm able to run DECwrite, Bookreader and one DECterm, but Mail or
Clock goes pending. ASTLM is at 60, ENQLM at 100, TQElm at 16, BYTLM
at 60000 (!) and FILLM at 50. So something is still limiting me pretty
badly. BTW it's not the timers, since the system is self-contained.
Progress, but slowly...

What value do you have for page file quota?
--PSW

1083.9 | ran out of mailbox quota | DELNI::GOLDSTEIN | We await silent Tristero's entry | Fri Jul 14 1989 16:47 | 10 |
| We found the problem. Page file quota was plenty large (30000, I
think). However, the MODPARAMS.DAT file contained a value (4096) for
DEFMBXQUOTA! This was discovered by a very helpful person who chooses
not to be named here... that parameter shouldn't be set, so we let it
do a new AUTOGEN sequence and all is well.
The system had been cloned by an RSM load host which may have gotten
some strange ideas from Interleaf, which seriously broke DECwindows
when I converted it over from VWS and "virtual DECwindows".
