Could you please inform me as to what are DEC's plans regarding XUI software license that were issued as field test version for non-DEC hardware? My customer, NYNEX S & T, signed for the software and installed it on SUN hardware. They also had an on sight-training of XUI ( Xlib & XUI Toolkit) in May and trained 15 programmers. They have 4 DEcstations and 300+ SUN workstations. There has been tremendous reponse for DECwindows & XUI Toolkit. (UIL is talk of the Lab) We are making a proposal to trade in 100 SUN 3/50's & 3/60's. They want to use XUI but don't want to become OSF members (political reasons). They want to develop software that runs on different hardware platforms using X11. Their questions to me -- if they want to ship the software (in source format) to their customers could they re-license XUI toolkit to their customers? Is DEC going to bundle XUI with future release's of X11 from MIT? (rumour is SUN is going to bundle X-view with R4 of X11)? Is it necessary to become OSF member to get the regular license of XUI toolkit? They are developing in X11, but they don't want to use XUI toolkit unless they are sure about the future licensing policy's of the XUI toolkit. I would appreciate your response on these issues. Bellcore has also raised similar questions. NYNEX S & T works very closely with Bellcore on some projects. Thanks Manjula Khanna (Software Specialist)

You really should be asking DECwindows Product Management this personally rather than posting in a Notesfile. Send mail to Paul STAR::STEEVES. mike | |||||

Another product manager to contact is Shirley Schneider (CLT::). She is the new DECwindows Program Office product manager and is looking at the XUI source kit issues. >Is DEC going to bundle XUI with future release's of X11 from MIT? no. >(rumour is SUN is going to bundle X-view with R4 of X11)? This is true. > Is it necessary >to become OSF member to get the regular license of XUI toolkit? No. Anyone that sends them the money can get it without being a member. Look for a press release wednesday of this week. |
