1016.0. "Capture screen then print the file to LJ250?" by HGOSPS::LIWAICHUNG () Mon Jun 26 1989 06:58

    Hi,

    I have looked through notes about LJ250 and found that DECwindow
    does not support LJ250 with printscreen.

    My question is it possible to capture portion of screen to a file
    in SIXEL format then print it out to the LJ250.

    The problem is how to setup the terminal print queue for LJ250 since
    the LJ250 is now attached to the terminal port of a PVAX.

    For the time being, we set up the queue as unknow device type since
    LJ250 is not a supportted terminal device type.

    The result comes out with exact graphics that what we want but black
    in color. The original display on window ,of course, is colorful.

    Any suggestions.

    Chung.

The problem is that "capture screen" converts to a bitonal image -- so
if you used the session manager's screen-capture mechanism, it's too late
to try and print it in colour.

There is an internal-only program called UTOX which will do screen
captures using colour sixel format (and a whole lot more). I have
successfully used that for various things.

I can't unfortunately remember where to get the UTOX kit.

    Thanks for quick response.

    UTOX is for INTERNAL use only, what is about customer's concerns?
    In other words, does DECwindow offically support LJ250 as color
    printer?

    regards color printing. UTOX will give you color but I would like
    to ask:

    1. IS DECwindows V2.0 going to support color print portion of screen
       or not?

    2. If it is is this support in the FT version now available?
       or do we have to wait for SDC version?

    3. If it will be on SDC version, any ideas on release date?

    UTOX does do color. But I don't want to send lots of time figuring
    out how to get only a portion of the screen (croped) in color or
    traning 10 users how to use UTOX if COLOR printscreen is comming
    soon.

1016.6Color print screen is on it's waySTAR::BMATTHEWSFri Jul 07 1989 12:105
Color print screen is coming in DECWindows V2. There is support in the field test
versions although I believe there are some problems with it that will be fixed for
external field test which should be out this month.

    We have a customer with a bunch of VAXstations, some running
    VMS 5.3 and some running Desktop-VMS 1.01. My understanding is
    DECwindows 2.0 supports color printing, and is included with
    VMS 5.3 but not Desktop-VMS 1.01. Is this correct? Now, a
    few users want to print their screens to an LJ250, some running
    VMS5.3 and some Desktop-VMS 1.01. Do they need UTOX on all
    their machines to do it? Or can the VMS5.3 machines do it
    without any additional software? And how?

    Unfortunately we don't have an LJ250 here in the office so
    I can't try anyting out before going to the customer site.

    Any info would be appreciated.

1016.8need to patch the serverTOOLEY::B_WACKERThu Mar 29 1990 11:377
To get color sixel from the 5.3 server you'll need to get a patch from
the CSC or wherever you get them from.

It works better, but I get horizontal stripes on the lj250 that don't
appear if you type it to a terminal. Another specialist here also got
them, but I don't know why and gave up switching cables and changing
terminal attributes.
