1003.0. "Ultrix workstation session security" by DECWET::ERCOLANO (Tony's Front-end Shop) Thu Jun 22 1989 11:51
I am running Ultrix 3.0 on my workstation.
I would like to set things up so that only certain users
can display to my workstation.
Currently I do a
xhost +node-name
which allows any user on system node-name to display to
my workstation.
I am particularly interested in the question of other ultrix
nodes displaying to my workstation.
For example, assume that node fungus is an 8800 running Ultrix.
I normally do a do a rsh (remote shell) to fungus to start
a dxterm on fungus which displays back to my workstation.
The -display switch given to the dxterm is -display blito3:0
(blito3 is my workstation).
I have tried in the past to use the security menu from the
session manager without much luck.
Is there something that I can add to my .Xdefaults that
would only allow certain users from other ultrix machines
to display on my workstation? I can recall seeing (but
not where I saw) something about a combination of node
name and uid (i.e. fungus:123). (I am aware that my own
additions to .Xdefaults is not very "supportable".)
I have done both a directory search and a keyword search
of this conference without finding anything that addresses
this particular topic. If there is such a note please
point me to it.
