947.0. " Calendar V2 Internal Base Level is available" by CASEE::LACROIX (Gone with the wind) Wed Jun 14 1989 12:03

The DECwindows Calendar Development Team is pleased to announce the
availability of an internal base level of Calendar Version 2 for use in
a DECwindows V1 environment. This base level is functionally identical
to the version of Calendar which will be shipping with the next major
    functional release of DECwindows.

    Features Highlight:

Be sure to read the Release Notes. Here is however a shortened list of
the new features available in this release:

The Day View has been completely rewritten: overlapping entries
are now supported, entries can be dragged around, entries can
be stretched, icons can be associated with an entry, day notes
for a day can be entered, etc...

Calendar now supports two new print formats, in addition to the
ability to print plain text	available in V1: DDIF and native
	    PostScript.

Many new custominzing options are now available: general
customizing options, specific options for the day view, default
	    alarms or the icon box.

Calendar now supports many new styles of repeating entries: you
now can enter 'a meeting which happens on the second monday of
each month, but which should be skipped if that day happens to
be a non-working day', complex repeating daynotes (like
Washington's Birthday...), etc... Be sure to read the Release
	    Notes for more on repeats.

The timeslot editor is no longer modal; several editors can be
	    used.

Some menu items have been shuffled around to conform to the XUI
style guide, and to conform in general to the look and feel of
	    other DECwindows applications.

UIL is now used to ease the translation process.

Most bugs, QARs, glitches which have been reported against V1 of
Calendar seem to have been fixed.

    Known Problems:

This is the first base level of DECwindows Calendar Version 2
to be widely distributed. It is not production quality
software, and should be used at your own risk.

Performance is known to be a lot better than Version 1 in
certain areas (Day View...), and a lot worse in others (startup
time...). Bear with us, things will improve (hopefully).

Calendar writes many messages to SYS$OUTPUT which look like:
"X Toolkit Warning: DwtDrm__WCI_GetArgDesc detected error
Descriptor for argument". These messages can be safely ignored.

    Problem Reporting:

DO NOT SUBMIT QARS FOR THIS BASE LEVEL. It's an internal base
level, not a Field Test. Please use the DECwindows Calendar
	    conference located at:

		CASEE::DECW$CALENDAR

Be sure to identify the version of Calendar and VMS you are
reporting a problem for. Use the DECW$CALENDAR_VERSION.COM
	    procedure to this effect.

Alternatively, you can send mail to the following account:

		CASEE::DECW$CALENDAR_MAIL

The VMSinstallable kit can be found in:

	    LEROUF::DWC$KITS:DECW$CALENDAR020.A

    Installing the kit:

This kit will install Calendar in a directory which you specify
during the VMSinstal operation, so that other versions of
Calendar on your system won't be affected. You'll have to use
the command procedure DECW$CALENDAR_START.COM in that directory
to start up this base level of Calendar.

We are currently working on kits for VAX/ULTRIX and PMAX/ULTRIX; please
refrain from flaming because such a kit isn't yet available. Watch this
    space for an annoucement.

    Thank you,
    The Calendar Development Team.

For some obscure reason, the release notes are not in the place VMSINSTAL

copied in as DECW$CALENDAR_RELEASE_NOTES.MEM.

Funny you should ask. Not that we wouldn't want to do it, but there's
a project with such a charter. Take a look at the CLT::DECPLAN
    conference to learn more.

    Thanks,
    Denis.

947.8Calendar Ultrix BaselevelCASEE::LACROIXObject oriented dog food? No, sorryThu Jul 13 1989 09:45130
The DECwindows Calendar Development Team is pleased to announce the
availability of an internal base level of Calendar Version 2 for use on
a DECstation, in an Ultrix/UWS environment. We are sorry not to be able
to make a VAX/Ultrix kit available: the situation will soon be
corrected. This base level is functionally identical to the version of
Calendar which will be shipping with the next major functional release
    of UWS.

This is the first Ultrix base level of DECwindows Calendar
Version 2 to be widely distributed. It is not production
quality software, and should be used at your own risk.

This Calendar kit was built in a Ultrix 3.0 / UWS 2.1
environment. We have done limited testing in terms of
interoperatiblity with other releases of UWS.

Calendar writes many messages to SYS$OUTPUT which look like:
"X Toolkit Warning: DwtDrm__WCI_GetArgDesc detected error
Descriptor for argument". These toolkit messages messages can
	    be safely ignored.

Calendar doesn't consistently produce Postscript output when
asked to; you'll have to re-select the Postscript format for
            every new printing operation.

Calendar has problems dealing with some of the new complex
repeating entries now supported. None of these problems affect
the integrity of the data stored in the calendar file: these
entries which appear to be broken were correctly saved to the
            disk:

		- Conditional weekday repeats ('the first Wednesday at or
after the 18th'), for which a condition was set ('if a
non-work day then move backwards'), may cause entries
to disappear from days on which they should appear.

    Problem Reporting:

DO NOT SUBMIT QARS FOR THIS BASE LEVEL. It's an internal base
level, not a Field Test. Please use the DECwindows Calendar
	    conference located at:

		CASEE::DECW$CALENDAR

Be sure to identify the version of Calendar, Ultrix and UWS you
            are reporting a problem for.

Alternatively, you can send mail to the following account:

		CASEE::DECW$CALENDAR_MAIL

The Ultrix kit can be found in:

	    LEROUF::DWC$KITS:MIPSKIT.TAR

    Installing the kit:

The installation procedure will overwrite an existing V1
calendar image. You may want to rename /usr/bin/dxcalendar to
/usr/bin/dxcalendar_v1. Other V1 files will not be touched.

Copy over the tar file. Extract all the files in the tar file
	    in a temporary/junk directory:

		tar xvf mipskit.tar

Become super user, and then do a:

		make install

This will move the following files to the following
	    directories:

		dxcalendar to	/usr/bin/dxcalendar
		DXcalendar to	/usr/lib/X11/app-defaults
		dxcalendar_prolog.ps	to	/usr/lib/X11/app-defaults
		dxcalendar.uid to	/usr/lib/X11/uid
		Aboutframe to	/usr/lib/X11/help/dxcalendar
		CSH to /usr/lib/X11/help/dxcalendar
		Glossary to /usr/lib/X11/help/dxcalendar
		Overview to	/usr/lib/X11/help/dxcalendar
		History to	/usr/lib/X11/help/dxcalendar

The release notes will be left sitting in the temporary/junk
	    directory as mips_release.notes

    Thank you,
    The Calendar Development Team.

Does this baselevel allow you to shrink entries? I find it really annoying
to have to delete and re-enter a meeting when something comes up so I'll
have to leave early...

947.10CSSE32::MERMELLWindow PainSat Jul 15 1989 15:284
V1 lets you resize entries. Just select the entry and "resize" the
top or bottom border (touch it with button pressed, move it, then
let up on the button).

Not my copy... I can make the meeting start later, but I can't make it end

well, try clicking on the bottom, pulling past the ending time

947.14New Calendar X2.0-3 Base Level availableCASEE::LACROIXObject oriented dog food? No, sorryTue Aug 29 1989 09:4166
The DECwindows Calendar Development Team is pleased to announce the
availability of a new Internal Base Level of Calendar Version 2
(X2.0-3) for use in a DECwindows V1 environment. This is the last Base
Level of Calendar which will be provided by the Development Team, and
is identical (bug for bug) to the version of Calendar which will ship
with DECwindows V2. The previous Base Level is retired effective
    immediately.

    ******************************************************************
***	This Base Level is only available for DECwindows V1 ***
***	environments. Do NOT install this Base Level is you are ***
*** running ANY version of DECwindows V2. ***
    ******************************************************************

    Features Highlight:

No new features since the previous Base Level was released. Be sure to
read the Release Notes. Calendar will prompt you to upgrade your
database. If you have already used the previous Base Level of Calendar
V2, then no real update will take place. The only thing happening is
that the revision level of your database is incremented to become in
sync with what Calendar V2 SSB will inforce on all platforms.

    Known Problems:

All known bugs reported in this notes file, or in one of the QAR
databases, have been fixed. There's one V1 specific problem remaining:

Calendar writes many messages to SYS$OUTPUT which look like:
"X Toolkit Warning: DwtDrm__WCI_GetArgDesc detected error
Descriptor for argument". These messages can be safely ignored.

    Problem Reporting:

DO NOT SUBMIT QARS FOR THIS BASE LEVEL. It's an internal base
level, not a Field Test. Please use the DECwindows Calendar
	    conference located at:

		CASEE::DECW$CALENDAR

Be sure to identify the version of Calendar and VMS you are
reporting a problem for. Use the DECW$CALENDAR_VERSION.COM
	    procedure to this effect.

CLT::DECPLAN$PUBLIC:DECW$CALENDAR020.A for the Rest of the
	    World.

during the VMSinstal operation, so that other versions of
Calendar on your system won't be affected. You'll have to use

947.15 New Calendar X2.0-4 Base Level availableCASEE::LACROIXObject oriented dog food? No, sorryFri Sep 01 1989 13:0477
DECwindows Calendar X2.0-4 (aka IBL 4) is available for testing. This
base level is essentially identical to the previous one (IBL 3), but
    uses a new installation procedure:

Calendar will be linked on your system at installation time.
You'll thus be able to use Calendar in a V5.1 or V5.1-1
environment as well with V5.2 or T5.2-1.

The installation procedure has been fixed so that Calendar's
DDIF style sheet in CDA$LIBRARY was created with the
	    appropriate RMS attributes.

Calendar doesn't die anymore when generating DDIF. See
	    restrictions and known problems below.

    ******************************************************************

    read the Release Notes.

    Known Problems:

All known bugs reported in this notes file, or in one of the QAR
    databases, have been fixed.

You'll not be able to view Calendar's DDIF output. This is
because Calendar uses some naming conventions for its style
sheet not available in a DECwindows V1 environment.

Calendar writes many messages to SYS$OUTPUT which look like:
"X Toolkit Warning: DwtDrm__WCI_GetArgDesc detected error
Descriptor for argument". These messages can be safely ignored.

Calendar will prompt you to upgrade your database. If you have
