940.0. "display from ultrix to VMS does not work" by ASDS::WALSH () Tue Jun 13 1989 21:39

    I am trying to get X and DECwindow applications to run from an ultrix
    machine running 3.0 to a VMS machine running 5.1.  I can get the xterm
    and the dxterm to work but none of the other applications work.  The
    give me the unable to open window error, like the remote machine does
    not have the security file set.  Any one else have this problem.  I
    have tried it on two different VMS machines.
    
    xterm -display node::0
    dxterm -display node::0 both work
    
    dxcalc -display node::0
    dxcalendar -display node::0
    etc. do not work...
    
    Any Ideas

	Perhaps dxcalendar etc do not understand the -display switch? (Just guessing). Try SETENV DISPLAY display::0 instead. Burns

	I'd be interested myself. I've got a PMAX that has software which I'd like to display on my 3500 also. Does XUE work? Joe

	dxterm and xterm work because they setuid-root and therefore can set the username to use for proxy. The others can't and default to the uid instead.

	VMS requires bot UID and Username from ultrix nodes.
