If you're going to write-lock a note, at least read the whole thing! Were you on a power trip, or what? Anyway, I have heard another user complain about the inconsistent NOTES startup state. I don't know whether there is a VAXNOTES product notes file, but there probably is one. I also don't know how NOTES determines whether it should try to run in DECwindows mode. Can anyone shed some light on this? -steve-

I found that from FileView, I had to use the command "Notes/display=decwindows" to get it to come up with the DECwindows interface. From DECterm, this wasn't necessary. I heard an explanation of why this happens, but promptly forgot it! Mark

RE: .-1 The SDC version of notes uses the /DECWINDOWS qualifier. /DISPLAY= was from FT. If you use /DECWINDOWS, it always tries to come up in DECWindows mode. If you don't, it tries to figure out if it can or not. I'm not sure how it decides (Probably checks DISPLAY).

The VAX NOTES product conference is CLT::VAXNOTES_BUGS. Supposedly, and this is consistent with my experience, NOTES comes up in DECwindows mode if DECW$DISPLAY is defined. Steve P.S. Wouldn't complaints to the moderators be more appropriately sent by MAIL?

FileView does not always properly initialize a subprocess if a DCL verb is used directly (rather than invoking a command procedure) in the FileView verb definition. The behavior described is this problem. The workaround is to invoke VAX Notes, or most other utilities from a command procedure. |
