870.0. "GKS bundle indices and colours" by EVOAI2::DAN_M (Maya DAN) Fri Jun 02 1989 04:07

    GKS bundle indices and colours

One of my customers, using GKS with DECwindows asked the following:
"
We are testing using GKS 3D FT1 with the intention of using
GKS 2D V4.0 when it is available.

As part of our design, we are using segments on the WISS workstation
to store symbols, ie collections of GKS text, polylines, polymarkers
and fill areas in a variety of colours.
When we need to display a symbol on a window, we just call
GKS3D$INSERT_SEG to insert the WISS segment contents into the
    currently open segment.

One of our requirements, is to be able to display a symbol, in
either its native colours or in a fixed colour. To acheive this,
we intended to use bundle indices to force our desired fixed
colour when calling GKS3D$INSERT_SEG, using GKS3D$SET_ASF to
specify that text colour, polyline colour, polymarker colour
and fill area colour primitives will use the bundle indices.

    We found that :

    	- GKS3D$INTERPRET_ITEM ignores bundle indices

    	- GKS3D$INSERT_SEG also ignores bundle indices

    	- normal eg GKS3D$POLYLINE used bundles correctly

Is this expected behaviour of GKS in general and is it
possible that GKS2D and GKS3D will vary in this area? "

Thanks to help me to answer to my customer
    regards
    Maya

You would probably get more replies asking about this
    in the GKS Notes Conference...
