    I like very much the DECwindows version of EVE (TPU V2.4, VMS
    V5.2-42W), but I do find it very slow. Even just to echo characters is
    sometimes very slow (VAXstation 2000 , 14mb, little other activity). I
    can't compare the performance with previous DECwindows incarnations of
    TPU as this is the first time I've used the DECW interface. Sometimes -
    quite often - next screen or previous screen bring up the "watch"
    pointer, which indicates it is taking more than one second to scroll the
    screen.

    For details of how I start up DECW TPU, see note 1137.9.

    Is there anything I should be doing / can do to improve performance?

    From note 1137.9:

I have this in my DECW$LOGIN.COM:

$	spawn/nowait/nosymbol/input=nl:/out=tpu.log/proc=tpu -
		@sys$login:editterm

    and EDITTERM.COM is:

$ @sys$login:login/output=nl: !to get logicals defined
$ define sys$input sys$command
$ edit/tpu/display=decwindow
$ exit
