We are running DECwindows on our 20 node cluster with two 'big' machines (a 6320 and a 8820) acting as servers... the problem is that if I have CHILD created decterms on both of the above _and_ a cluster transition happens (Clu trans are very fast.. all (4) big machines have votes with none for the Gpx's.) all the DECterms on the 8820 disappear... the decterms on the 6320 are not affected.. this is very repeatable Why? it must be some difference in the sysgen parameters for the two machines.. but which sysgen parameters???

Come on now, folks. Someone out there must have come across this friendly little feature!

Which nodes are routers? Are the network virtual circuits closing due to Ethernet port resets? What kinds of Ethernet adapters are you using and what revs? What version is the software? You might look into the currently unsupported TCP/IP transport; it seems to be less sensitive to this kind of problem.

I've just look at the nodes in question and the 8820 is routing but the 6320 is not. This could be it. We're running DECnet-VAX V5.0, VMS V5.1 I can tell you the rest of the stuff tomorrow when the system manager comes in. Thanks, Stephen. |
