719.0. "Problem on Firefox with decterm & decwindows..." by QUARRY::ZGRAGGEN (Searching for infinity...) Wed May 03 1989 09:17

    Hi, (help!)

    I've just got my VS3540 and I put it into our LAVC (VMS V5.1-1), the
    problem we are seeing is that when I log in decterm can't start, it
    runs out of re-tries. If I then try to create a decterm the session
    manager gets blown away.

    Is there anything I should have installed before? A patch? ROM levels
    to low?

    If anyone can help...

    Thanks,
    	Peter

    P.S. I've upped all the normal sysgen params, but to noavail.

    Look at the log file to see why the DECterms could not be started.
    Also look in the SYSUAF with AUTHORIZE and see what the account's
    quotas are. I suspect a quota too low or a process create limit too
    low.

719.2DECterm controller ACCVIOQUARRY::ZGRAGGENSearching for infinity...Wed May 03 1989 11:5837
    Hi,

    UAF quotas are very high, and work on other members of the cluster.

    DECW$SM.LOG example included below (quite small)

    Last time this happened to me it was GBLPAGFIL set too low. In my case
    it was less than the recommended 6k.

719.4Check DECW$DISPLAY logicalDCC::ALDENKen AldenTue May 09 1989 06:0712
I've seen this also on the 3540, and the problem was that DECW$display was not
defined.

By trashing this logical, you can very easily create a "Captive" workstation,
as you'll find that by eliminating the logical from the job table, and then
asking for a new DECterm, the session manager will crash.

If you're still having the trouble, log in from the network, and check on the
logicals...
