Is it possible to control the amount of customization a user can do to his fileview window? Ideally the customer's support staff could maintain several of the application groups on the pull down menu which would not be modifable by the user. Of course the user would have a couple areas to call his very own... Please no lectures on how control isn't our thing, democracy is breaking out all over, etc. Totalitarianism dies slowly... Any ideas?

In a future version of FileView (sooner rather than later), you will be able to customize the built-in menus as well as the user-defined menus. This lets you create a bounded, constrained, environment, just as you described. The only way to escape from this environment is through a DCL terminal window, where you can run FileView against the default profile by defining some logical names. Although this is not meant to be a security feature, it does help you set up a simpler "turn-key" user environment using FileView. You might want to check out the BULOVA::FileView notes file, too. -steve- |
