    Is it possible for me to change the color without exiting my session?

    I'm sorry, change the color of my GPX monitor?

Sorry, but "change the color of my GPX monitor" still isn't specific enough.
Do you mean "change the screen background color?"

RE: .6

Yes, if you happen to know the window ID of the window whose color attribute
you wish to change.

       I believe the author of .0 was looking for a means to apply the
    changes which one can make from the session manager window setup (I
    believe it's "Window...", my workstations a few thousand miles away
    from me right now :-( ) to currently existing windows on the screen.

       I don't know why this isn't possible, it would "merely" be changing
    an entry in the default colormap for the workstation, rather than
    entering a new one for the newly selected/generated color, but I'm not
    intimate with the details which might prevent a simple solution.

699.9Clients need to do it themselves somehowDECWIN::FISHERBurns Fisher 381-1466, ZKO3-4/W23Thu May 04 1989 15:5614
    The problem is that the session manager has no idea what color
    indices the other client windows have used for backgrounds...it can
    only pass on the color and let the client allocate the color. In
    addition, you can't just change the colormap entry since it is most
    likely allocated read-only. In addition, the client (or other clients)
    might be using it for other reasons.

    One could, presumably, set up a protocol using properties or something
    to tell the clients that they should check for a new background. That
    is probably the best way to do it.

699.10Here's a workaround, but don't use it on ULTRIXFLUME::griffinTue May 09 1989 14:097
Theoretically, if you make the changes, save them, then make a minor change, then
"Use Last Saved Settings", this will also do what you want.

However, on ULTRIX, this can cause the session manager to either crash
(terminating the session), or dissappear. (This has already been QAR'd)
