687.0. "Customization question for DECWindows notes" by TOOK::RASPUZZI (Michael Raspuzzi) Wed Apr 26 1989 17:09

I have a question about notes customization. I like having all of my
notes entries expanded and in the tree format in the main notes window.
However, there does not appear to be a parameter of some sort that I
could tweak in the NOTES$DEFAULTS.DAT file so that when notes is started
I get this view for free.

Is there a way I can this so that the tree is displayed and expanded
each time I start up notes or am I just going to have to do it by hand
each time? I tried DIR/TITLE=CUSTOM and DIR/TITLE=NOTES but did not
find another topic that could help me.

Thanks,
Mike

687.2Wrap me in Built-InSTAR::TRAVISFacts don't come with points of view.Tue May 16 1989 00:058
    While we're dreaming, is there any way to tell the Builtin editor
    to WRAP at the window width? With the current performance, I get
    several words ahead, notice that I need to wrap, and have to wait
    a least 45 seconds before everything is enough under control again
    to step back and insert the line break by hand.

No. Since it doesn't really wrap (it only appears to) we chose to go with the
current behavior so that all notes did not end up being 1 line long.

 How can I do a reply in DECwindows notes and incorporate the text
 from a previous note, like I can do with standard notes by typing
 REPLY?

 (Extracting the note and then reading it in is a poor substitute)

     Select the text in the existing note that you want to quote
     (either use the mouse to select a part of it, or the Edit
     menu's "Select ALL" item to select all of it), then click
     MB3 in the window where you are composing your reply to copy
     the selection to there.

    What? It doesn't even APPEAR to wrap for me. It scrolls to track
    the point, blinking with a refresh at each character insertion,
    and when it catches up to me, it sits there and winks (refreshing
    again, why, I do not know) at me for about ten times, then I can
    resume doing work.

    I've moved back to CCT-based Notes in the interim. This one bug
    alone is maddening enough to run me off.

I believe he was referring to an undocumented Xdefaults hack which
made things *look* like the lines were being wrapped correctly but,
in fact, were not.

 That would work, but it won't give you this banner, that the editor does:

>       <<< Note 687.5 by AITG::DERAMO "Daniel V. {AITG,ZFC}:: D'Eramo" >>>

	Yes; I wish they would make it possible to select that "header"
	information along with the text, so that you could copy it, too.

	You could always type the "<<< Note by >>>" yourself and then
	quick copy the note number and the author&personal_name from the
	read window. That's how I enteered:

	<<< Note 687.8 by MARVIN::COCKBURN "Craig, PhaseV & FCNS" >>>

687.10Pop-up menu "Enter" button entry?DECMAC::SYSTEMJeff - The Network *IS* the System!Tue Jun 06 1989 14:059
Is it possible to add the LK201's "Enter" key to the pop-up menu you get
when reading a note?

Specifically, it would be useful to have a rapid way of moving:

go-to-the-next-reply-if-there-is-one-else-go-to-next-unseen

	If the read window has the input focus, then most of the
	keypad keys already work.

I suggest taking any more NOTES questions to the CLT::VAXNOTES_BUGS
conference.

    Mail was able to work around this. The notes people should steal their
