659.0. "Where is Xmodmap?" by MISFIT::SALEHIM (Mike Salehi) Mon Apr 24 1989 13:28

    Greetings,

    	I need to modify the keymap. I findout through usenet that there
    is a program/routine called Xmodmap on the MIT tape. I don't have
    the MIT stuff, can anyone send/point to it.

We ship it (and most other MIT goodies) as part of UWS.

    	I knew it would be on an ultrix system but I don't have access
    	to an ultrix system that has it and even if I find it, I won't
    	know where to look.

    	Please post a pointer to where it is, I can do the port to VMS.

It's on the R3 tape in clients/xmodmap. I don't know where you can find the
tape on the ENET, offhand.

I don't know if this will help you more than Jeff's comment, but here is a
pointer to a machine with x11r3 on it:

decwrl::/pub/X11

You can do directories of it, type files, but unfortunately, they seem to
have broken the distribution into less than understandable subsets and the
README file is less than useful.

BUT, on the bright side, you can at least have a place to poke around in.

If you are not familiar with how to specify ULTRIX filespecs so VMS doesn't
throw up, er, give you a nice friendly cybercrud message, here's how:

dir decwrl::"/pub/X11/R3"
type decwrl::"/pub/X11/R3/README"

NOTE: ULTRIX is case sensitive and if you get the case wrong, it will not
find the file. Afterall, what is case for, but to distinguish filenames and
variables from their cousins?

BTW - you might want to do a directory of /pub itsself; lots of interesting
things there.

Ok. I'll take my tongue out of my cheek now. ;-)

Hope this helps.

Otherwise I'd post the converted sources in DW_EXAMPLES. I'll try to find time
to figure out how to port it.

659.6In the meantime, use the EXEKASINO::NEIDECKERDont force it,get a bigger hammerWed May 10 1989 05:099
In the meanwhile you may want to use the binary. Get

	KASINO::XMODMAP.EXE
	KASINO::XMODMAP.MAN

Have fun.
