658.0. "Workstation hangs when logging out of a session" by AKO455::SHEPRO (NOW what'd I do?) Mon Apr 24 1989 09:09

One of my users is having this problem described below. She is a satellite
VS2000 on a LAVc running VMS 5.1 and D.W. 1.0, both SDC. She also has connected
to another node via VWSLAT.
.....................

This is FYI. Twice I have 'hung' my workstation. On the second
occasion I managed to figure out why it was happening.

If you are in a window session and logout of that
session (LO) and click to another window before the logout has
completed and the window has vanished, you will hang anything
else that you have going on. You will be able to click to the
other windows but they will be frozen. The only way to get out
of this is to pull down the 'Commands' and select QUIT which means
you lose whatever it is you have going on at that time.

Sounds like QAR time (unless VWSLAT is a significant part of the problem).

The QAR should have info like:

Does "window session" mean a terminal emulator window?

Are there other DECwindows applications running? (If not, please try running
something like calendar or calculator or something). Are they also frozen?

Can you set host to the workstation from another system while it is frozen?

Can the problem be reproduced easily, or just once in a while?

Can the problem be reproduced w/o VWSLAT?

Thanks....
