When running DECwindows on a workstation, the number of interactive users shows up as 2 (I've only got the Session Manager and a DECterm window active). When a customer sees this, and another user tries to log in (via the Ethernet), he gets an error about maximum number of interactive sessions exceeded. Why shouldn't two interactive sessions be allowed, if the license OKs it ? Steve H

Two things: The answer to your question is, "Yes, but the license does not allow it. The license (a legal document) allows the use by a single user. The LMF, on the other hand allows two users to login. THe idea is that we don't want to allow things like system management to happen while the real user is still running, or to allow someone to go in and smash a runaway process, or etc. The second thing is that I don't understand just what problem you are having. Last time I tried this, the DECwindows login counted as 1 user against the LMF, but DECterms did not. Thus you should be able to have (and I have had) a DECwindows user logged in with as many terminals, FileView sessions, etc as you like, and then one other login before LMF kicks in. Of course if you SET HOST 0 or something from a DECterm window, that will count as another user. For more discussion, search around a few weeks back in this conference. I think it was discussed. Re .1 >Of course if >you SET HOST 0 or something from a DECterm window, that will count as another >user. That's outrageous! I'm glad I'm not a DEC customer; I'd have to buy at least a 4 user license just to have a usable system. -- Bob |
