615.0. "Customization of w/s for users" by BLYTH::CORNWALL () Tue Apr 18 1989 06:37

	**************************************************************

	As yet I havent had time to investigate this myself and wondered if
	anyone else has.

	Is it possible to allow someone to log into a workstation such that
	the customization features of the Session Manager and Fileview are not
	available to them. This is the type of thing customers want to do when
	all they want their users to see is typically some icons representing
	their own applications, that is , the user logs in, the icon box
	appears, and icons representing their applications appear in the icon
	box. Or is it possible to take the customize options off the Session
	Manager and Fileview windows.

615.1Resource files?TEXAS::ROSETue Apr 18 1989 14:005
    Once upon a time I did this by manipulating the resource file for the
    session manager and setting certain widgets to be not sensitive (in
    your case the Customize pull down menu entry widget). This was back in
    BL9 days so I'm not sure it would work on SDC DECwindows.

615.2Constraining FileViewDECWIN::KLEINTue Apr 18 1989 16:5911
In FileView V2, you will have the option of customizing away FileView's
customization capability (on a per-user basis). We are calling this a
"constrained" FileView environment.

A constrained FileView environment can be set up by a system or group manager
in "behalf" of a user. Once a user's profile has been "constrained",
it can only be extended (changed) by starting FileView from DCL (after having
defined some logical names to temporarily bypass the user's profile file).

	Thanks for the replies. Any idea of timeframe in which the above will
	be available ?

Sorry, but I don't really know when it will reach the field. I just pump
it in at one end of the pipe...
