605.0. "Decterm title bar rendering bug?" by Z::TENNY (Dave Tenny - VAX LISP development) Sun Apr 16 1989 17:49

I hope this is easily answered. I looked through this
conference and back to 21-NOV of DECWINDOWS_OLD and
couldn't find answers.

The problem:

I have just installed SDC VMS 5.1 and whatever the corresponding
SDC decwindows version is.

When my decterm title bars are highlighted (have input focus),
the text becomes unreadable. The letters are rendered
in a wierd color, and apparently share colormap entries
with the mouse pointer! (i.e., if I change the mouse pointer,
or make it cross boundaries so that its colors change, text in
the highlighted title bar also changes).

Further, this may be related to similiar behaviour
when running XTREK. All graphics for planets and planet names
are completely unreadable.

I have a 16meg color GPX. The bug isn't making the machine
unusable, but none of my title bars are readable when
highlighted.

Is this related to the INDRIVER problem? I've also found
references to it, but couldn't find out what the INDRIVER
problem was. Do I need a new .exe?

Help!

Seems to me that I recall that when you go to SDC 5.1 you have to select
the system defaults in the Sesson Manager "Customize" pulldown menu,
redoing your customisation afterwards and saving them.

This was due to some changes in resource names and such stuff,
including font names etc. This may well be your problem.

Also check if you have a DECW$XDEFAULTS.DAT specifying fonts and/or
colours. These entries will need to be altered/deleted.

It isn't that the colors are selected in any funny
fashion for various places. The problem is that
for some renderings (decterm title bars, xtrek),
things are just plain screwed up, and it appears that part
of it is somebody pointing to the pointer color map
when they shouldn't be.

I checked the sys$manager and user decw$xdefaults.dat files,
they are either missing or devoid of color specifications.

Is this a 4-plane GPX, per chance? I wonder if you have the old "Regis
colormap" problem? Try setting your terminal to NOREGIS. If this works,
then search through your command files (login.com, sylogin.com, etc)
to make sure you are not doing something that sends Regis commands.
VTX is a possibility. Also some people have sent regis commands to set
their text colors.
