600.0. "Pseudo Terminal Driver" by VINO::VOBA () Fri Apr 14 1989 11:08

    I've read somewhere in one of the many voluminous DECwindows manuals
    that there is a pseudo terminal driver being used. It also warned that
    the users should not use it. My problem is as follows: i've been tring
    to use the pseudo terminal PVDRIVER from the toolshed for one of our
    testing tools. It was not linked for VMS 5.1. The author seems to have
    left the company.

    I'd appreciate a pointer to another driver or another VMS 5.1 PVDRIVER.

600.1PCDRIVER used in DEC/Test ManagerKOBAL::FULLERTONMon Apr 17 1989 21:4212
The DEC/Test Manager ( DTM ) uses a Pseudo Terminal Driver, PCDRIVER, which is
maintained by DTM for testing of interactive terminal applications.
Currently specifications for a VMS supported Pseudo Terminal driver are under
development. DTM plans to cease use of its PCDRIVER when and if the VMS
driver becomes available. Please contact me if you want more information.

My experience has been that TW/PY works better. Where does it say I
shouldn't use it? It's a great pair of drivers, VMS should have had
them ten years ago.

    Jeff,

    TW/PY may work better, but users shouldn't count on it being included
    with VMS. Eventually the PTY interface will be replaced by a new
    scheme currently being worked on in VMS. It should literally blow
    the doors off of TW/PY. And of course, it will not be compatable with
    the PTY interface.

    So users wanting the PTY interface should get it from the PD source
    (I think there's a copy from DECUS).
