| For what is shipped with VMS, what is on the release tape is _it_.
On the other hand, Software Services sees the customization and
extensions of DECwindows as a tremendous opportunity to add value.
Provided that the Digital employees involved have a good understanding
of the business and technical issues involved, it would certainly be
possible to get uwm and xterm to run under VMS. I personally haven't
done this but perhaps other people have either for the hack value or
because they have customers who have contracted with Digital to provide
it.

| If he doesn't like the policy of the Decwindows style he can either define
his own by getting the standard X11V3 tape from MIT and make it work on VMS
workstations (with our help?$), or wait a bit and use another style, Motif.
I've put the internally available preliminary (HPWM) version on my VMS
workstation and it not only is closer in look and feel to UWM but seems
(correct me if I'm wrong) less rigid than Decwindows (preferable to some of our
customers). We have shown it to some of our customers (on Ultrix) under nondis-
closure and the ones that were used to the default X windows style really liked
the HP/Microsoft/pre-Motif style.
See note 338 for information on the sample HPWM window manager.
