552.0. "DECwindow hangs if not system group" by HGOSPS::LIWAICHUNG () Fri Apr 07 1989 06:58

    Hi guys,

I have just installed the DECwindow V5.1 and start to play with
it. It worked for few days until I changed my UIC to [100,101].
Originally, my UIC is [1,101]. The symptom is that whenever I
bring up my VS2000 and log in to it at console, it just hang up
with the screen background displayed. I check the DECW$SM.LOG and
find that my session was logged out due to insufficent privilege.
    The message is:

    ******
    %DCL_W_ACTIMAGE, error activing image SECURESHR
    -CLI-E-IMGNAME, image file
    HTSC06$DUA0:[SYS0.SYSCOMMON.][SYSLIB]SECURESHR.EXE;
-RMS-F-NOPRIV, no privilege for attempted operation
LIWAICHUNG logged out at 7-apr-1989 14:51:11.23
    ******

My account has sysp and exquota privilege.
Once I change back UIC to [1,101]

    Any ideas?
    Thanks a lot!!!

    Chung

We saw something like this the other day. Secureshr needed to have
W:RE access and to be reinstalled. Once we did that, all was well.

SECURESHR is shipped W:RE. Someone has been playing Captain_Security :-)

We have been getting a LARGE number of calls here at CSC/CS with
this very problem, and the folks, to a one, are denying that they
have messed with the protection. Who ya gonna believe ;-) ??

Anyway, it has always been resolved by correcting the protection
    and reinstalling it.

    Thanks for inputs !!!

It works after I set the SECURESHR.EXE with "W:RE" and install it
    again.
