530.0. "EDT & DecWin ....." by BOOTIS::BAILEY (The Pursuit Of _Knowledge_) Tue Apr 04 1989 09:58

I've only just started with DECwin so I may be doing something
obviously wrong here (if so please tell me)

My normal Editor is EDT and worked fine on my workstation
after I brought up DW.... for a while

The day after I started with DW I invoked EDT as normal, got EDT
into Screen mode and (example) pressed the down arrow key twice,
the cursor moved down one line, paused then shot down the bottom
of the screen and remained there flashing and reporting 'End Of Buffer',
over and over.. the only way to stop this was to hit Control Y many many
times

What seems to be wrong is that EDT will repeat over & over a single
EDT key stoke, IE if I press 'Delete Char' it will delete the whole
file, line by line, char by char

    	I use EDT all the time. Try without an EDTINI or any fancy symbols.

Sounds like the autorepeat problem.

Do "lock user features" on the Customize/General pulldown on your DECterm
window...

In could also be the "software gods" trying to pull you (kicking and screaming?)
in to the VAXSet Architecture (ie LSE) and away from PDP-11 based architecture
(ie EDT).

Just Joking,

Brian

    Then there are those of us waiting for the VAXset architecture to
    offer functionality and performance as good as the PDP-11 offers...

I also had the same problem and thought it was a keyboard problem or
a connector problem - because the autorepeat was not repeatable. It
was there once and after fixing the connectors properly it seemed to work
fine. Occasionally I do see that problem though.

What does Lock User Features do anyway ?

Thanks.

530.8Explanation of Lock User FeaturesHANNAH::MESSENGERBob MessengerWed Apr 05 1989 13:455
Lock User Features means that some options, such as auto-repeat, can only
be changed from Customize and not from a program.

    One thing it will do is stop DECterm from trying to execute the
    autorepeat on/off sequence. One side effect of this on UIS and
    apparently on DWS as well is that the KB attribute change causes
    a burst of LK201 mode change ack's and data overruns during this
    burst.
