499.0. "DECW$TAILOR lacks functionality" by LESLIE::LESLIE (Born to be Mild) Wed Mar 29 1989 16:35

These comments specifically apply to VMS T5.2, but probably apply
    equally to SDC V5.1.

DECW$TAILOR is very unhelpful for anyone wanting use a local disk that
is already mounted or a remote disk on another node.If VMSINSTAL can cope,
    then so should DECW$TAILOR.

My experiences were with the Tailoring ON process.

It WON'T accept a network specification and gives very uninformative
    error messages in this event

It INSISTS on trying to mount the distribution media FOREIGN - and
gives no error messages AT ALL when it tries to mount, say, an existing
disk with the savesets on, just loops to a question with no error text.

It ALWAYS tries to dismount the distribution media at the end.

The only way I could get it to work was to open another window, copy the
    .com file and hack!

Whilst I realise that this is not a high priority in terms of system
crashes etc, from an ease of use standpoint, thie really should get fixed
for the SDC version of V5.2!

This has been QAR'd as #178 in the V52-IFT QAR database.

Its the DECwindows equivalent of VMSTAILOR, used to tailor portions of
the kit on or off your system.

In particular, if you installed, say, programming support, then decided
you didn't need it and would like it off, DECW$TAILOR can remove it.
    That works fine.

What DOESN'T work fine is trying to tailor ON a component, such as
programming support, for the reasons stated in .0.

This seems to be pretty much fixed up in the SSB version of 5.2.
