| Good luck...it is real hard to do.
Actually, I think the question was answered earlier in this conference
as "don't hold your breath", but a search for "LJ250" would probably
confirm that.

462.2 | Use UTOX | 22073::gabriel | Thank You Very Little | Thu Mar 23 1989 09:05 | 7 |

We have successfully used UTOX to capture the screen in color
and then print it on an LJ250. It works very well. Check out some
of the previous notes as to how to get ahold of UTOX.

| I am looking for confirmation that a "fix" for printscreen/color will
be included in V2.1. Is it? The UTOX tool is fine for internal use,
but I have a customer who is waiting to hear about DECwindows/Ultrix
support for LJ250/printscreen.
What can I do? Who can I ask?
Thanks

462.5 | Using LCP01 printers for color plots | HPSCAD::MBOUCHER | | Wed Jun 21 1989 11:28 | 13 |

I currently don't have access to a LJ250 but I can use an LCP01.
Can someone tell me if the UTOX tool will also work with the LCP01
and if it does how I can get the UTOX tool. Also, can someone give
an example of what they do to go from the "capture screen" step
to actually printing the screen on the LJ250.
Thanks,
Mike

Is the LCP01 like the LCG01? If yes then UTOX will work. More to the point,
does the LCP01 understand REGIS and/or SIXEL? If yes then UTOX will work.
Press KP7 to select the UTOX conference. In there you will find out where
to get UTOX.
Capture Screen gives you a file in the format you selected, DDIF, Postscript,
or SIXEL. You then just print this file to the appropriate printer.
Hope this helps.

The LCP01 is the earlier name for the LCG01, and it supports both ReGIS and
sixels.

462.8 | Didn't get a color plot out of LCP01 | HPSCAD::MBOUCHER | | Thu Jun 22 1989 10:12 | 15 |
|
Well, I installed UTOX tool and used the command_line interface
to create a color sixel file ($UTOX MYNODE::0/SCREEN TEST.SIXEL/SIXEL).
By the way I have an 8-plane GPX, my window colors are blue, green,
and red. After I created the SIXEL file I sent it to the LCP01
printer and I got a BLACK+WHITE plot. Are there any ways I can
verify that the SIXEL file is a color SIXEL file or do I have to
pass some special qualifiers when I print the file?
Thanks for any help or suggestions,
Mike

462.11 | | QUARK::LIONEL | Free advice is worth every cent | Fri Oct 05 1990 10:41 | 13 |
| Well, I'll save you from having someone else say this less politely. This
notes conference, like most of them, is an informal mechanism for resolving
problems at best. Everyone who participates here is a volunteer, and nobody
is required to answer every question.
A corollary of this is that virtually nothing you read here should be
construed as "official".
If you need a question answered for a customer, and it must be right, and
you must have it now, then you should not be relying on this conference.
Instead, you should ask a product manager, such as Janis (JARETH::) Horn.

| If an Ultrix only situation you might be able to use UTOX to capture the screen.
I'm not sure about giving it to customers but most Ultrix software is public
domain.

462.13 | UTOX, ULTRIX only??? | SITBUL::MCCARTNEY | | Fri Oct 12 1990 20:18 | 24 |
| RE: .-1
I'm very confused. I thought UTOX was originally UIS to X or some such
tool. My KITSDIR.DOC (list of network kits) shows UTOX to run under
VMS V5.0. Why is this an "Ultrix only solution"? I also thought this
was a tool developed by DEC for in-house use. It may be in ASSETS
somewhere but I don't think it's public domain.
When I look at the user's guide I find a statement saying:
"UTOX (pronounced "you-talks") was created as an experimental
internal project intended to convert UIS files for use within
the DECwindows environment. Since its creation, UTOX has
evolved to being able to read and write many image formats,
to capture screen images, and to run from a command line.
Although the original acronym UTOX meant "UIS-to-X"
reflecting its original use, the acronym is now a misnomer
through evolution."
You can find the package on AIRBAG::SYS$PUBLIC:[UTOX] if you're
interested.

462.14 | Color Postscript software | SHAKEY::SENGUPTA | Shekhar Sengupta, ESG Marketing | Wed Oct 17 1990 19:11 | 7 |
| There is a public domain file at decwrl::/pub/X11/contrib/ImageMagick.tar.Z
The documentation and programs indicate that this system can take an
image from various formats including X and convert it to a new format called
MIFF. (MIFF is that author's creation and is public domain as well).
The programs also indicate that color PostScript can be used as an output
format. Good luck with it and let us know if it works.
