When I try to edit a file using the Notepad editor, I can only access files as if I were a nonpriv user even when my privs are on. I get the messages "File is Read Only" and "No Permission to read this file" even though I can use the same file with other utilities. Is the Notepad turning my privs back off? We are running SDC DECwindows V5.1.

Notepad is using a C run time library routine called "access", I believe. This routine is at least ignorant of ACLs, and may have more problems than that. I've run across this problem, but to be honest I don't remember if I QARed it.

There are several anomalies with access(). The VAX C team is aware of the problem and working on it. --PSW

Actually, I hadn't hit that one yet... One more to add to the list... Sigh... - Brad |
