399.0. "Probelm booting into DecWindows" by AKO455::SHEPRO (NOW what'd I do?) Tue Mar 14 1989 08:15
This note is also posted in VAXWRK::VMS_NOTES, #707
I am having a problem with a single satellite node in a *VERY* homogenious
LAVc. (Anymore homogenious and the SYS$SPECIFIC would be the same as
SYS$COMMON)
The operating system is all SDC VMS 5.1 and Decwindows. The boot node is a
MVII with 9 MVIIs and VS2000s. The node in question is a VS2000 with 14mb
of memory and B/W monitor. There is only one boot node with a single common
system disk.
This one node, maybe 45 to 50% of the time, when it boots into the cluster asks
through a detached process, probably from Decwindows Startup, by way of OPCOM
if I want to run AUTOGEN and at the end of the boot does not go into D.W., it
just allows logins from the console (vanilla workstation screen).
This is the only node in the LAVc that is having this problem.
When I built the satellite, and originally had the problem, I though maybe it
was a bad VAXVMSSYS.PAR. I copied another file from another root, changed
SYSNODE and SCSSYSTEMID and tried that but to no avail.
Usually, I log into SYSTEM and reboot.
