398.0. "European IS DECwindows conference" by GVA01::ANTONESCU () Tue Mar 14 1989 03:54

      Yet another DECwindows conference. But this time it is opened by the
      European Information Services, End-User Services ...

      Conference Name : DECwindows 5W's - Who, What, Where, hoW, When
      Conference Address : SHIRE::DECWINDOWS_5W

      This not_very_technical conference aims to discuss DECwindows for
      Internal Use implementation concepts, tactics, issues.

      The fact that we get the software for free and the hardware nearly
      three times cheaper, makes us 'slightly' special customers. Hopefully,
      this will not keep out of our discussions the non-IS people; most
      knowledge is in SWAS, Marketing, Sales, FS, ... and last but not
      least, Engineering.

      So give us a hand, please ...

      We would like to define more specific objectives of this conference in
      topic 2.x. Until now, some proposed objectives are :

      1. Identify the end-user areas where the DECwindows and its layered
          applications will add value to our internal operations

      2. Position applications to these areas and recommend "who, how, when,
         where, why, ..." to use them. Package more applications into a
         "solution" for each identified area.

      3. Relate to the existing "character-cell" applications and address
         tactical interoperability issues.

      4. Address "conceptual" system architecture, management, operations,
         training, support, ... issues.

      5. Provide inputs to be included or referenced into the European
         Workstation Strategy updates and the recommended Product Set.

          ...

      Thank you in advance for your inputs and participation.

      Best regards
      Paul Antonescu, mail address @GEO or GVA01::ANTONESCU, DTN: 821-4376
