337.0. "UUE/Desktop Applications-Pilot Test Request" by DEMON::ZIMMERMAN () Tue Mar 07 1989 13:37
We are looking for pilot test subjects for a computer-based
instruction (CBI) course on the ULTRIX User Executive and the
desktop applications available with ULTRIX Workstation Software
V2.0.
The course is designed to provide relatively new DECwindows users
with the knowledge and skills needed to begin using the User
Executive (the graphic interface to ULTRIX) and the following
desktop applications:
o Calculator
o Calendar
o Cardfiler
o Clock
o DDIF Viewer
o Mail
o Notepad
o Paint
o PostScript Previewer
Our pilot test is currently scheduled for Tuesday, April 4th and
Wednesday, April 5th in Burlington, Mass. We need volunteers who
are available for a good part of EITHER Tuesday OR Wednesday
(9:30-4:00).
It is ESSENTIAL that our pilot test volunteers be reasonably
familiar with the DECwindows interface. Ideally, we're looking
for participants who either have completed the Introduction to
DECwindows Systems CBI or have equivalent experience. The
DECwindows skills we require include the ability to:
o Use the mouse to make selections
o Manipulate windows (resize, shrink, move, etc.)
o Enter text in text-entry fields
o Make selections in dialog boxes
o Use the Session Manager and its menu options
NOTE: NO KNOWLEDGE OF ULTRIX IS REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE
PILOT TEST.
If you're interested in participating as a pilot test subject,
please send MAIL to me at DEMON::ZIMMERMAN. Include the following
information:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Name:
2. DTN:
3. Job title (and, if not obvious, a brief description of
your job function):
4. Describe the extent of your experience with DECwindows to
date (i.e. Have you taken the Introduction to DECwindows
Systems CBI? Have you used the ULTRIX User Executive? Have
you used any of the desktop applications on a regular basis?).
5. Describe the extent of your experience with ULTRIX to date.
(If you are not familiar with ULTRIX, describe the extent of
your experience with other operating systems.)
6. Each participant will be asked to complete only a
fraction of the course. Given the list of applications
listed above, are there any that you'd be particularly
interested in learning about?
7. Which day, Tuesday, April 4, or Wednesday, April 5 is
better for you?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you respond to this request, I will get back to you on or
before March 23 to either schedule time with you, or let you know
that we've already found enough people.
Thank you,
Mike Zimmerman
